The New Orleans International Music Colloquium was founded in 1997 by Joseph Logsdon and a committee of people affliated with the University of New Orleans, with help from the French Consulate. The goal was to have an annual music conference that invited public participation.
Since its beginnings, the Colloquium has at times been sponsored by various institutions, including the Louisiana State Museum, the Midlo Center for New Orleans Studies - University of New Orleans, the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, Tulane University's Hogan Jazz Archive, and French Quarter Festival.
